World Cup in Lenzerheide - Biathlete Preuß "mega happy" after catching up and fourth place

Despite her race to catch up, Franziska Preuß, who has only just regained her fitness, narrowly missed out on a podium finish at the Biathlon World Cup in Lenzerheide, Switzerland.

The former world champion worked her way up from seventh to fourth place in the ten-kilometre pursuit race. Justine Braisaz-Bouchet defended her first place, although she missed three times. Second place went to her French compatriot Julia Simon. After two penalties, she crossed the finish line 25.2 seconds behind the winner. The third-placed Norwegian Marit Ishol Skogan (2 misses) distanced Preuß by 2.4 seconds.

"I'm happy that it went so well," said Preuß, who had recently been out of action due to a coronavirus infection, in an interview with ZDF. "Today I was a bit remote-controlled because you can feel the lack of oxygen. But I fought until the end and I'm super happy."

While Preuß made two shooting errors, Vanessa Voigt hit all the targets. She improved by 14 places and finished in seventh place. Janina Hettich-Walz, who had recently cracked the internal World Championship standard, finished eighth after one penalty. Young talent Selina Grotian had to complete five extra laps and just missed out on World Cup points in 41st place.
