World Cup - Biathlete Preuß in seventh place in Lenzerheide

Thanks to four strong shooting performances, biathlete Franziska Preuß finished the first World Cup weekend after her coronavirus illness with another top ten finish.

The former world champion missed out on the podium in seventh place in the mass start by just over half a minute due to a weaker performance on the cross-country ski run. The Olympic champion Justine Braisaz-Bouchet, who also finished the last race before the Christmas break without any mistakes, came out on top. The Frenchwoman won all three races in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. Second place went to Sweden's Elvira Öberg (2 misses) ahead of her older sister Hanna Öberg (2).

"I am very satisfied, also with the first trimester in general. I had few expectations and if someone had said to me that seventh place was my worst result, I would have signed that straight away," said Preuß in a ZDF interview.

Vanessa Voigt was well in the race up to the standing start, but then missed twice and dropped back to 21st place. Team colleague Janina Hettich-Walz had to shoot three extra rounds and finished in 23rd place.
