American pop duo - Between hits and hashtags: Sofi Tukker on the music industry
The American dance-pop duo Sofi Tukker faces challenging tasks beyond music in their job. "The biggest challenge in the music industry is that we have to do so many things that have nothing to do with music," Sophie Hawley-Weld told the German Press Agency.
"There are times when we're doing so many other things. Like social media for so many different platforms. They're peripheral but important," said the 32-year-old. They keep their fans up-to-date on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, X, or Snapchat, sharing not just music but also some personal snapshots. "We have to consciously make time for music," she added.
They've been performing together as a duo for a decade now, with their first self-written song "Drinkee" becoming an instant hit and making them famous worldwide. Times have changed since then. "I think since our beginnings, so much has changed in the music industry. The way people find music, how it's marketed. I think you just adapt," said duo partner Tucker Halpern.
No Future Anxiety for New Album
Despite the changes in the industry, neither of them is anxious about the future. It's not a good use of energy to think too much about the future, said Hawley-Weld. "I think I can use my energy best by focusing on doing the best we can now."
On August 23, the duo will release their third album "Bread". "It's really exciting to bring this album out at the end of the summer. Hopefully, we can show it to everyone in the world," said Halpern. In November, Sofi Tukker will play two of their own concerts in Germany, in Hamburg and Berlin, and also support Kygo in Cologne.
The duo utilizes social media platforms like Instagram, TikTok, X, and Snapchat to engage with their fans and share both music and personal moments. Despite the numerous tasks in the music industry, such as managing social media, they strive to make time for creating music.
