Benfica Lisbon uses 1. FC Heidenheim

Midfielder Jan-Niklas Beste from 1. FC Heidenheim is set to receive a five-year contract at Benfica Lisbon. He is not the only key player, however, that FCH is losing. The small Bundesligist is reportedly set to receive a substantial transfer fee for Beste.

Midfielder Jan-Niklas Beste is leaving 1. FC Heidenheim after two years, according to reports from dpa. The 25-year-old is set to join Portuguese top club Benfica Lisbon and will play under German coach Roger Schmidt. Previously, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano had reported on the impending transfer. On the platform X, Romano stated that Beste had already undergone a medical check in Lisbon and would sign a contract with the vice-champion until 2029.

The transfer fee was initially unknown. Beste's contract in Heidenheim was still valid until June 30, 2025, and his market value was estimated to be around 15 million Euro.

With his departure, FCH, which made its first entry into the Bundesliga in the club's history in 2023 and will compete in the Conference League playoffs in the summer, loses another key player. Forward Tim Kleindienst recently joined Borussia Mönchengladbach, and the loaned-out striker Eren Dinkci signed for SC Freiburg, another league rival.

Beste, who is also a goalscorer, has played for Heidenheim since the summer of 2022 and contributed significantly to the team's promotion with his performances. He was one of the top players in the squad coached by Frank Schmidt last season. This earned him an invitation from German national team coach Julian Nagelsmann to the March friendlies against France and the Netherlands. However, Beste had to withdraw from the squad before the games due to an injury.
