Before Hrubesch: Bayern women's soccer players beat Wolfsburg
FC Bayern's women's soccer team took the lead in the Bundesliga with a win against VfL Wolfsburg. Despite dominating the first 45 minutes, the team of Norwegian coach Alexander Straus had to tremble for the three-pointer in a 2:1 (2:0) win right to the end.
In front of the eyes of interim national coach Horst Hrubesch, Linda Dallmann in the 29th minute and Klara Bühl (37th) gave the champions from Munich a comfortable lead. As if out of nowhere, Lena Oberdorf (63), who fired home from 20 meters out, opened the scoring on the sold-out FC Bayern campus with 4347 spectators.
Munich's Jovana Damnjanovic (51) missed an early decision with a penalty that hit the crossbar. FC Bayern, who remain unbeaten (14 points), are now top of the table ahead of Wolfsburg, who have one point less.
Clear dominance
"I was a bit surprised," Hrubesch admitted on ZDF television, admitting his surprise at Munich's superiority in the first 45 minutes. "Bayern clearly dominated it in the first half."
Wolfsburg cleared twice on the line (14th, 20th) before FC Bayern struck. After a misplaced pass from DFB captain and goal scorer Alexandra Popp, who was able to start despite muscular problems, the prudent Georgia Stanway sent the strong Bühl through with a pass into the deep. Lisa Schmitz, who was standing in for national goalkeeper Merle Frohms due to the effects of a concussion, allowed her pass to smash goalwards. On the follow-up shot, Dallmann was quicker than her opponents.
The midfielder later dropped the ball for Bühl, who increased the lead with a dry shot from 17 meters into the bottom left corner. Munich continued to press, but neither Damnjanovic nor Bühl (54), who hit the post, ended VfL's hopes of scoring in Munich. After Oberdorf's completely unexpected follow-up goal, the Munich side held on for a prestigious victory.
In the ongoing Bundesliga, FC Bayern's women's team continues to shine, having secured a win against VfL Wolfsburg, with key contributions from players like Linda Dallmann and Klara Bühl. This victory has placed FC Bayern Munich at the top of the table, maintaining their unbeaten streak and leaving Wolfsburg trailing slightly behind.
Despite Wolfsburg showing resilience and managing to clear the ball off their own line twice, Bayern's Women's Soccer team showcased their dominance in the first half, a fact acknowledged by interim national coach Horst Hrubesch.
