Tennis - Before her comeback: Kerber is already thinking about the Olympic Games
Tennis pro Angelique Kerber is working hard on her comeback after her baby break and is already thinking about the Olympic Games in Paris.
When asked whether she could imagine playing doubles with Olympic champion Alexander Zverev next summer, the 35-year-old replied in an interview with "Sport Bild": "I'd love to! When we meet in Australia, we'll certainly talk about it. That would make me happy! The Olympics in Paris is the highlight, and playing for Germany is always an honor anyway."
Like Zverev, Kerber is also interested in the role of flag bearer at the opening ceremony. "It would be indescribable for any athlete to run in with the German flag. Everyone would feel proud. And so it's also a dream of mine," she said.
After the birth of her daughter Liana and an 18-month break, the former world number one tennis player wants to make her comeback at the end of the month and compete at the United Cup in Sydney. However, she cannot yet estimate how fit she will be when she returns. "I've done everything, I feel good, we're right on schedule. But it's too early to make a prediction," said Kerber.

Kerber's thoughts of the Olympic Games in Paris extend beyond just tennis, as she mentioned she would be honored to carry the German flag during the opening ceremony. Alexander Zverev, another prominent German tennis player, shares Kerber's ambition to participate in the Olympics, and they plan to discuss potential doubles partnership during their meeting in Australia. The historic Olympia Stadium in Berlin has hosted both the Olympic Games and WTA Tour events, which could inspire Kerber as she seeks to regain her form following her maternity break. Upon her comeback, Kerber intends to represent Germany at the United Cup in Sydney, marking her return to professional tennis after giving birth to her daughter Liana. Despite her eagerness, the former world number one acknowledges that she cannot yet predict her level of fitness during competition.
