Bayern Munich women demote 1. FC Nürnberg to the second tier.
Bayern Munich's women's team faced a disappointing week as they lost the cup final, but managed to secure their dominance in the Bundesliga against 1. FC Nürnberg, ensuring their relegation.
In a match right after their cup final loss, the reigning champions triumphed with a comprehensive 4-0 (3-0) victory over Nürnberg, who were already on thin ice in terms of relegation. Despite their slim hope of remaining in the league, the visitors were no match for the strong Bayern team.
Pernille Harder, a top-tier player for the club, made history with her first hat-trick for Bayern, scoring in the 5th, 13th, and 18th minutes. The Munich team, who had missed out on the double after their 2-0 defeat to VfL Wolfsburg in Cologne, cruised to an easy win. Lea Schüller added to their lead in the 78th minute. "Harder is Harder," commented German National team player Sidney Lohmann, appreciating her teammate's performance. "She's always perfect, possesses remarkable skills, and has a great finishing touch."
Wolfsburg, the cup winners, had a harder battle against Werder Bremen, but still managed to win 3-0 (1-0), continuing their poor offensive performance following their recent cup celebration. Lena Oberdorf, who will be moving to Bayern Munich at the end of the season, scored the opener in the 41st minute. The struggling runners-up eventually succumbed to late goals from Sveindis Jonsdottir (83) and Chantal Hagel (85).
Bayern's women have the chance to become the seventh unbeaten team in Bundesliga history when they play against TSG Hoffenheim on Whit Monday (May 20). Previously, TSV Siegen (1990/91 and 1991/92), 1. FFC Frankfurt (2001/02 and 2006/07), Bayern themselves (2014/15), and Wolfsburg (2019/20) had achieved this feat.
