Bayern Munich ultimately secures a new coach, namely Kompany.
Bayern Munich has concluded their search for a new coach, appointment will be made on July 1st. Vincent Kompany, a 38-year-old Belgian, has been confirmed as the new coach following his agreement with a three-year contract. He currently leads the English Premier League club, FC Burnley since 2022. Bayern club made the official announcement after a10.5 million euros fee and incentives release clause was agreed upon. Previously, Kompany was contracted with Burnley until 2028.
Sports director, Max Eberl, described Vincent Kompany's eagerness during their talks, "In our conversations, we instantly connected. He showed us how much this Bayern job excites him and he truly wants to take on the position. Vincent Kompany has a strong appetite and brings everything to the table. During play, he was a prominent leader in international high-level football, and now as a coach, he's well above expectations. We hope for more consistency in this position."
Back in February, Bayern announced the split from Thomas Tuchel and subsequently endeavored to find a replacement without success. They approached inquiring about Leverkusen’s coach, Xabi Alonso, German national coach, Julian Nagelsmann, Ralf Rangnick, Austria’s coach, and Glassner from Crystal Palace. A chance of Tuchel staying on was also in the air.
Kompany spent time in Hamburg from 2006-2008 playing as a defender. Subsequently, he assumed the role as coach of his native Belgian club RSC Anderlecht after he had concluded his playing career in his own country. Then he moved to England in 2022, where he helms Burnley, but this season results in relegation. Throughout his career as a player and captain, Kompany was triumphant at Manchester City–winning four titles. For the Belgarian national team, he played 89 matches as well.
