Bayern basketball team struggles against the local city club.

In a thrilling turn of events, Alba Berlin triumphed over Bayern in the BBL Finals, taking them by surprise in their own arena. Led by two exceptional former NBA players, Alba Berlin tied the series at 1:1 after defeating Bayern 79:70 in Munich.Precision shooter Matt Thomas emerged as the standout Berlin player, scoring an impressive 21 points against a puzzled Bayern side. Another ex-NBA star, Sterling Brown, contributed 17 points to their well-deserved away win.

The home team was notably disappointing on offense. Carsen Edwards, one of Bayern's top scorers, managed a meager 17 points. The German Championship final games will now continue in Berlin; the championship game may even be crowned on Wednesday (8:30 pm) or Friday (6:00 pm).

Alba Maintained Momentum throughout the Game

In contrast to the first game, Bayern began strongly, grabbing a sizable lead within six minutes. But the celebrations were short-lived. Alba quickly caught up, surpassing the stunned Bayern squad. They ended the first half with a seven-point lead thanks to a shutout in the final five minutes.

"That was utterly abysmal," Leandro Bolmaro, a backup player for Bayern, commented on the Dyn channel. Munich's team president Herbert Hainer also agreed, saying, "That second quarter made me question things. I've never seen only six points scored in a quarter in the BMW Arena before."

Despite Lason's halftime speech, Bayern's performance did not measurably improve in the third quarter. Alba maintained their tempo and intensity, particularly on defence. Captain Johannes Thiemann's return from a patellar tendon injury helped the Berliners, despite not being in top form. "We needed all the support we could get at this stage," said Coach Israel Gonzalez.

Alba thrived without a typical guard, with numerous Berlin backup players sidelined due to injuries. Despite these challenges, they managed to secure a stunning win.
