Bayern basketball players lose in Kaunas
FC Bayern Munich's basketball team has suffered its next defeat on the road: The Bundesliga basketball club lost 73:74 (43:41) in the EuroLeague game at Zalgiris Kaunas on Friday, meaning it has now lost its last five away games in all competitions. Bayern conceded the decisive basket with nine seconds remaining. It was the sixth defeat in the ninth game of the season in the European Cup for the team of Head Coach Pablo Laso.
As in the two previous EuroLeague encounters, Munich's Leandro Bolmaro struggled to build up play, while Kaunas exploited Bayern's mistakes and also scored a high percentage from outside. As a result, the visitors trailed by 18:25 after the first quarter. Bayern appeared more composed in the second period thanks to its bench players and turned the game around with a 13:1 run to take a 43:41 lead into the break.
Munich carried its momentum into the second half and opened up a gap of up to nine points. However, Kaunas found its rhythm again at the end of the third period and recaptured the lead by 62:61.
Bayern went six minutes without scoring in the final period before Serge Ibaka (20 points) drained a three to give the visitors a 73:72 lead with 29 seconds remaining. However, Kaunas' Keenan Evans added two points on the break and Bolmaro missed the shot to win on the final attack.
Despite the struggle of Leandro Bolmaro, Bayern's EuroLeague campaign continues with another challenging result. The team lost their EuroLeague game against Zalgiris Kaunas, extending their losing streak in away games to six.
