Basketball world champions experience an NBA night to forget

With Joel Embiid and Luka Doncic, two superstars are shining in the NBA. For the Germans, on the other hand, the evening was more than modest. The Wagner brothers suffer their second defeat in a row and Dennis Schröder is also unable to win.

Another defeat for the Wagner brothers, another loss for Dennis Schröder: the German basketball world champions had a night to forget in the NBA. DBB captain Schröder and his Toronto Raptors lost 103:112 to the Miami Heat, while Franz and Moritz Wagner and their Orlando Magic were beaten 111:121 by the Cleveland Cavaliers.

In the Magic's second defeat in a row, Franz Wagner scored 14 points and brother Moritz 11, while Paolo Banchero's 42 points could not prevent Orlando from losing for the seventh time this season. Before the two most recent defeats, Wagner and Co. had set the franchise record with nine wins in a row.

Schröder also fell short of his potential in his Raptors' twelfth defeat of the season (nine wins), finishing with nine points, five assists and five rebounds. After a strong first half (66:64), the Raptors lost the thread in the second half, especially in offense.

Embiid furious, but not even fit

Things went better for Daniel Theis and his Los Angeles Clippers. The German center scored eight points and grabbed ten rebounds in the 111:102 win against the Denver Nuggets. The win against the reigning NBA champions led by Nikola Jokić (22 points) was the Clippers' tenth win of the season and their tenth defeat.

Joel Embiid once again made the headlines. The reigning MVP scored a furious 50 (!) points in his Philadelphia 76ers' 131:126 win over the Washington Wizards - despite missing two games due to illness. "I didn't feel good. My chest was killing me," said Embiid, who also managed 13 rebounds and seven assists, afterwards: "I felt better in the second half, but I was struggling." It was a new season best for Embiid after he had already scored 48 points against the Wizards exactly one month ago.

The Dallas Mavericks landed another win after two recent defeats. And what a win it was. The team led by superstar Luka Dončić demolished the Utah Jazz, with Dončić scoring 40 points in the Texans' 147:97 win. National player Maximilian Kleber, who injured his toe, did not play.

Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs with top talent Victor Wembanyama are getting closer and closer to their franchise record (16) from last season. The 94:102 was the Spurs' 15th defeat in a row, with Wembanyama scoring twelve points and grabbing ten rebounds.
