Barcelona, Atletico and Lazio in the round of 16
FC Barcelona, featuring international footballers Ilkay Gündogan and Marc-André ter Stegen, have reached the last 16 of the Champions League.
Without the still injured national goalkeeper ter Stegen, the Catalans won 2:1 against FC Porto. João Cancelo (32nd minute) and João Felix (57th) turned the game around for Barcelona after Pepe had put FC Porto ahead (30th).
Atletico Madrid are also through to the knockout round. The Spaniards won 3:1 (1:0) at Feyenoord Rotterdam and go into the final matchday of Group E at the top of the table. The result also secured Lazio Roma's place in the round of 16. The Romans had won 2:0 against Celtic Glasgow earlier in the evening.
Former Dortmund player Ciro Immobile scored twice as a joker (82nd/85th minute), and the final clash with Madrid in two weeks' time will decide who wins the group. In the Netherlands, an own goal from Lutsharel Geertruida (14th) and goals from Mario Hermoso (57th) and Santiago Gimenez (81st) secured the win for Madrid. Mats Wieffer scored the equalizer in between (77').
Mbappé rescues a point for PSG
Kylian Mbappé secured Paris Saint-Germain a 1-1 draw against Newcastle United with a penalty in stoppage time (90.+8) and thus the best starting position for the remaining round of 16 ticket. PSG are second behind BVB on seven points, with Newcastle and AC Milan on five points each. Alexander Isak's goal (24th) was not enough for the British side.
Behind Manchester City and RB Leipzig, Young Boys Bern continued their European Cup journey in the Europa League. The 2-0 win over Red Star Belgrade after an own goal from Kosta Nedeljković (8') and Lewin Blum's strike (29') secured third place in Group G for the Swiss side ahead of their final clash with RB Leipzig on December 13. The Serbs have been eliminated.
Barcelona will aim to continue their Champions League journey in the round of 16, having secured their spot with a 2-1 win against FC Porto. Despite Ter Stegen's injury, Ilkay Gündogan and the team managed to turn the game around, with João Cancelo and João Felix scoring the winning goals.
Meanwhile, Soccer fans looking forward to the Champions League will be excited to see Titans like FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid face off in the tournament, as both teams have advanced to the round of 16.
