- Band announces end of stage career
It's over: Rock band Aerosmith has announced their premature exit from the stage on social media due to Steven Tyler's (76) ailing voice. The singer has been battling a vocal cord fracture since September 2023, which has now forced the group to fully cancel their initially paused farewell tour.
"Difficult but necessary decision"
"The band paid tribute to their frontman's voice, saying, 'You know, Steven's voice is an instrument like no other. He's been working tirelessly for months to get it back to where it was before his injury.' However, his condition has not improved even with medical help.
"Unfortunately, it's clear that a full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We've made a heart-wrenching and difficult but necessary decision - as a band of brothers - to step away from the touring stage," the US rockers announced their retirement from live performances. In late September 2023, the band had to cancel their "Peace Out: The Farewell Tour" due to Tyler's vocal issues. The first concert after the break was scheduled for September 20 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
"Play our music loud, now and forever"
The band thanked their fans in the statement: "It's been the honor of our lives that our music has become a part of yours. In every club, on every big tour, and in big and private moments, you've given us a place in the soundtrack of your life." Their fans are "the best fans on the planet."
They also encouraged them: "Play our music loud, now and forever. Keep dreaming. You've made our dreams come true." They touched on their global success, saying, "Some of you have been with us from the beginning, and you're all the reason we've written rock 'n' roll history." They also expressed gratitude to the team behind the tour: "We're grateful to our skilled crew, our incredible team, and the thousands of talented people who've made our historic tours possible."
Active for 54 years
The American classic rock band was formed in 1970 and has been active in the music industry for over 50 years. Their self-titled debut album, featuring their hit "Dream On," was released three years after their formation. They gained international fame with other songs like "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing," "Crazy," and "Sweet Emotion."
Besides Steven Tyler, the band members included guitarists Joe Perry (73) and Brad Whitford (72), bassist Tom Hamilton, and drummer Joey Kramer (74). Refunds for already purchased tickets will be provided by the respective vendors, as stated in the band's announcement.
"Fans have taken to social media to express their disappointment and support for Aerosmith, sharing heartfelt messages and tributes to the band and Steven Tyler's iconic voice."
"Despite the cancellation, Aerosmith continues to engage with their fans on social media, sharing behind-the-scenes content and updates, keeping the spirit of their music alive in the digital space."
