Inge Brings - "AWZ" veteran was diagnosed with breast cancer

Inge Brings (61) returns to the set of "Alles was zählt". Recently, she took a sudden break from her role as Renate Scholz, which she has portrayed since the start of the series 18 years ago. The reason for this was a breast cancer diagnosis, as she now reveals in an RTL press release.

"I am grateful every day that I am still here. I am looking forward to work. And in general, having a normal daily life again", she tells the broadcaster. She and the cast of "AWZ" deliberately kept this news from the fans to give Brings unlimited time for recovery. The "AWZ" actress had first focused on getting well, as she recalls, "but with such a diagnosis, work is initially a secondary matter".

Experiences of Loss due to Cancer

The diagnosis shocked Brings and her surroundings - not everyone dealt correctly with the situation. Besides fighting against the health complaints, she had to part ways with supposed friends. Some "didn't even check in or reacted so strangely that I had to distance myself from them", remembers Inge Brings. During chemotherapy, she made new friendships, with whom she still meets, "but now there's cake instead of infusions".

Through treatment at the breast cancer center, cancer is now considered defeated by Brings. With her experiences, she now wants to encourage other sufferers. "The therapies [are] not always as dramatic as one might know from films", she emphasizes in the statement.

Return to filming

The actress is now looking forward to starting work again on "Alles was zählt". The first new episode with her will be aired on August 7. She is still not ready to reveal too much about her development as "Frau Scholz". However, she identifies strongly with her role and the sport of figure skating. The sport is, she says, "a wonderful metaphor for life in general: how do we treat others? Are we individual fighters or team players? How do victories feel, how do defeats?"

Inge Brings, who fought breast cancer, shares her gratitude for returning to the set of "Alles was zählt" after a sudden break. She's eager to focus on work and resuming a normal daily life, as she reflects on her challenging journey. Despite losing some friendships, she formed new ones during chemotherapy that have continued beyond her treatments. Now, as she prepares to rejoin the show on August 7, Inge remains tight-lipped about Renate Scholz's comeback, but emphasizes her strong connection to her character and the sport of figure skating, viewing it as a symbol for life's ups and downs.
