Australian ice hockey competitor Tom Craig facing disciplinary action following alleged attempt to purchase cocaine during the Paris Olympics events.

According to a declaration, Hockey Australia enforced their punishment on September 9, specifying that Craig must participate in "compulsory learning and awareness sessions."

The announcement stated: "Half of this suspension will be served in its entirety, while the other half will be suspended indefinitely, under the condition of adhering to behavioral standards and conduct norms."

"During the suspension, Craig will be barred from participating in any match, tournament, or event governed or organized by Hockey Australia, including the forthcoming Hockey One League and FIH Pro League seasons."

Hockey Australia affirmed that Craig would still be eligible for the subsequent year's national team selection, and expressed concern for the player's well-being.

CNN contacted Craig via Hockey Australia for comment on the decision.

Craig was apprehended by French authorities last month for endeavoring to purchase cocaine in central Paris. French judges then appeared in front of him, following which he was released with a warning not to engage in similar activities in the future, as disclosed by Paris prosecutors to CNN earlier.

Following his release from the Paris police station, Craig addressed reporters, expressing remorse for his actions over the previous 24 hours. He acknowledged his blunder, took full accountability, and mentioned that his actions were purely his own and in no way reflected the values of his family, teammates, friends, sport, or the Australian Olympic team.

"I've let you all down, and I'm profoundly sorry," Craig stated.

The 29-year-old is a seasoned member of the national team, with over 100 appearances under his belt for his country. He was part of the team that secured second place at the Tokyo Games. However, Australia was eliminated in the quarterfinals in Paris.

Craig needs to utilize his time during the suspended portion of his punishment to improve his understanding of relevant issues, as he is required to participate in "compulsory learning and awareness sessions" related to sport and conduct. It's important for Craig to maintain a positive attitude towards his personal development, as this could potentially pave the way for his future involvement in sports.
