Attorney for ex-partner alleges Zverev's legal team uses wear-down strategy
A well-known tennis player named Alexander Zverev is dealing with legal issues in Berlin due to claims of inflicting physical harm. Zverev's legal representative has firmly dismissed the accusations. However, his ex-girlfriend's representatives have uncovered more allegations.
Michael Nitschke, the lawyer representing Patea (Zverev's former girlfriend), asserts that Zverev's defense team is trying to wear down and ruin his client psychologically. He added that they want to discredit Patea during the trial at the Berlin Amtsgericht Tiergarten. Patea is also a co-defendant and a witness in this case. Zverev's team declared their intentions to make Patea testify in court about these false claims.
Nitschke stated that Patea is being threatened and their aim is to reduce her credibility. He also noted that the accusation of her pursuit of money is inaccurate. "She felt abandoned and wanted justice," Nitschke remarked. Even though she is fearless, a prolonged trial is expensive. Patea might be financially drained in the future.
The prosecution claims that Zverev shoved Patea against the wall of their rented Airbnb place in Berlin during a disagreement in May 2020. She struggled with shortness of breath and excruciating pain afterward. These issues persisted for several days.
A restraining order was established in Zverev's absence, demanding him to pay a fine of 450,000 euros (90 fines of 5,000 euros daily) as reparation for bodily harm. Zverev appealed against this ruling, resulting in a court case with a schedule of ten days. Zverev was not present during the proceedings because he is currently competing in the French Open, the second significant tennis tournament of the year.
Zverev's attorney disregarded the allegations during the initial hearing and described them as false. The lawyer suggested that Patea's issues with child custody and spousal support payments played a crucial role in her complaints. She aimed to achieve her requests through this.
Zverev's advocate also said that photos, videos, and witness testimonies from the days following the supposed attack by Zverev will undoubtedly expose the absence of any physical injuries. These evidences will also highlight the happy couple's cheerful interactions with their parents in Hamburg. "There were no signs of inflammation or confrontation and no marks or wounds. They were all delightful and joyously eating with their mom two days after this alleged event," he said.
Zverev's defense attorney revealed that Patea's primary motivation was increasing her fanbase on Instagram and TikTok, indulging in a lavish lifestyle filled with fancy restaurants, popular parties, and unrestrained shopping. In her public posts about her lifestyle and income, she had often fabricated the perceived reality. Zverev paid for their extravagant travels, accommodations, luxury purchases, and Berlin apartment. Court proceedings will feature these credit card statements. Patea later realized that the life of a tennis professional is not what she imagined: it includes rigorous discipline, abundant training, restricted diet, and a strict no-alcohol policy.
