Contests Held in Rome - At the European Athletics Championships, Krause and Meyer compete in the steeplechase final.
At the European Championships, Gesa Felicitas Krause, a two-time European champion in the 3000-meter hurdles, is set to compete in the final on Sunday evening (8:20 p.m./ARD) in Rome. She's hoping to claim another medal after placing third in the afternoon's heat with a time of 9:31.52 minutes. This time, Lea Meyer crossed the finish line ahead of her, with a European time of 9:30.63 minutes. Stella Rutto, from Romania, snagged the win in 9:30.00 minutes.
In another heat, Olivia Gürth made it to the finals even after falling on the last lap. And unfortunately, Frenchwoman Flavie Renouard took a tumble into the water pit on her head.
Krause shared her thoughts on the hot conditions during her race with ARD, saying, "To make it to the top eight, I don't necessarily have to lead. I'm just trying to survive the heat." This will be her fourth Olympic Games, both happening within two months in Paris. Meyer will also be competing in that event.
The very first day of competitions saw shot putter Yemisi Ogunleye from Mannheim breeze through to the finals tonight (9:33 p.m./ARD) with a throw of 18.40 meters. Although there was a small crowd to witness it.
