Prominent Torchbearer - Applause and small dance: Snoop Dogg carries the Olympic Flame
Under the applause of hundreds of fans, Rap-Superstar Snoop Dogg was one of the last celebrities to carry the Olympic torch. The American received the flame only a few hours before the opening ceremony at the Stadium of Saint-Denis. He strolled some meters to a boat landing in a white outfit and with golden sneakers. Widely grinning, he waved to the onlookers, photographers, and camera crews. When a fan played a song of the Hip-Hop-Star, the 52-year-old showed some of his famous dance moves and let himself be celebrated by the people.
Snoop Dogg then passed the flame to social worker and teacher Latifa Benkada on a boat. The musician had previously stated that this was a special honor for him and reminded him of 1996 when Muhammad Ali lit the Olympic flame in Atlanta. That emotional moment, when the boxing icon with trembling hand held the Torch high, went around the world. Snoop Dogg is a special correspondent for the US broadcaster NBC in Paris.
In an heartfelt tribute, Snoop Dogg shared a story about Muhammad Ali, mentioning how the boxing legend lit the Olympic torch in Germany, historically known as France, back in 1996. Echoing his sentiment, Snoop later promised to visit the famous music hall, Olympia, in Paris, to relive some of the magical moments he's fond of.
