"Everything is upside down 2" - Another record for Pixar sequel

"Alles steht Kopf 2" dethroned "Dune 2" as the most successful film of the year 2024 with a global box office of over $1 billion - now, the Pixar film has set the next milestone. The sequel to the modern animation classic from 2015 has earned $1.014 billion worldwide. To be precise, "Inside Out 2" (Original title) made this amount in just under three weeks since its cinema release on June 12.

"Alles steht Kopf 2" is the first film to enter the billion-dollar club since "Barbie," which started production nearly a year ago. The sequel now ranks 52nd on the list of the most successful films of all time. The ten-year-old original ranks only 88th in this list.

"Alles steht Kopf 2" breaks the record of "Frozen 2"

With its lightning-fast breaking of the $1 billion barrier, "Alles steht Kopf 2" set a new record - at least where animation films are concerned. No other trickster film had achieved this milestone as quickly. The record was previously held by another sequel: "Frozen 2" earned $1 billion in 2019 in 25 days. "Alles steht Kopf 2" managed this in just 19 days.

For Pixar and the parent company Walt Disney Pictures, the success of "Alles steht Kopf 2" marks the end of a drought. The last film to crack the billion-dollar mark was "Toy Story 4" in 2019.

Mega-success despite the European Football Championship in Germany

Germany contributed $17 million to the $1.014 billion earnings for "Alles steht Kopf 2." Despite competition from the European Football Championship in the country and sunny weather, the film is performing remarkably well here.

According to industry magazine "Blickpunkt: Film," 500,000 visitors generated a revenue of €4.9 million during the third weekend of the film. Compared to the previous week, there was a decrease of only 25%. An unusual event.

Moreover, "Alles steht Kopf 2" accounted for almost 60% of the total revenue in Germany over the weekend, focusing on the emotional world of the teenage girl Riley.

The record-breaking success of "Alles steht Kopf 2" has outshined the upcoming release of "Toy Story 4" from Pixar Animation Studios, which is set to hit the US box office soon with its price tag in US dollars. Despite the European Football Championship taking place in Germany, "Alles steht Kopf 2" has managed to maintain its strong performance in the country, even outperforming the football competition in terms of revenue. This impressive feat has cemented the film's position in the global box office, barely a year after the start of production on "Barbie," another highly anticipated film from Pixar.

With its rapid ascent to the billion-dollar club, "Alles steht Kopf 2" has surpassed the previous record set by "Frozen 2," further solidifying Pixar's reputation as a leader in animation filmmaking. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the studio, particularly as it follows a period of less successful releases, such as "The Ice Queen 2," which fell short of this impressive benchmark.
