Tennis - All-clear for Zverev after concerns about Olympic start
In spite of his knee injury, tennis player Alexander Zverev seems to be planning an Olympic start. His brother and manager Mischa Zverev stated this to the German Press Agency in response to an inquiry.
Mischa Zverev remained at the same stance that Alexander had announced after his fifth-set loss at Wimbledon. "Hamburg is on the schedule," Mischa Zverev even added. The ATP tournament in Zverev's hometown is taking place in the coming week. The Olympic Games in Paris begin on July 26.
Bone edema and a capsule tear
After his defeat in five sets, Zverev reported that he had suffered from bone edema and a tear in the capsule. However, in Paris, he wanted to compete and win, Zverev had said. The 27-year-old Hamburg native had slipped in his third-round match at Wimbledon and had overextended his left knee. In the quarterfinals against American Taylor Fritz, he was clearly limited.
Mischa Zverev had not excluded the possibility on Tuesday that participation in the Olympic Games could be threatened. However, there was a suspicion of something more serious, Mischa Zverev reported on the streaming service Amazon Prime. During a doctor's visit in London, about 40 milliliters of fluid and blood were removed from the swollen left knee on Tuesday.
His younger brother will therefore consult another doctor in his residence Monaco. "If it's a fracture in the bone or a tear or whatever, then you have to look at how long it takes. But then the Olympics could be in danger," Mischa Zverev said before giving the all-clear.
