tennis - Alexander Zverev is in the final in Hamburg - he knows the opponent
Tennis player Alexander Zverev reached the final once again at the ATP500 Tournament in Hamburg. He impressed yet again, just as he did in the quarterfinals against Chinese player Zhang Zhizhen, against Spanish player Pedro Martinez, winning in 1:24 hours with a score of 6:2, 6:4. The almost 10,000 spectators in the stadium at Rothenbaum celebrated the Hamburg native after his second match point.
In the Final on Sunday (3:00 PM/Sky), he will face the Frenchman Arthur Fils. The 20-year-old had also defeated Argentine Sebastian Baéz just as decisively with a score of 6:2, 6:2. In the previous year, Fils had lost to Zverev in the semifinals.
Zverev impresses in the first set
The fourth-ranked player came out strongly against Martinez, just as he had against Zhang. It was apparent that the 27-year-old was having knee problems, which was evident during the breaks. He spent them standing, just as he had the previous days. In the match itself, there was no sign of hindrance from Zverev. Once again, his serve was his best weapon. He hit 13 aces this time. After breaks at 2:1 and 5:2, he won the first set with a score of 6:2 comfortably. In the second set, he took the first game from his opponent's serve. However, Martinez improved, and Zverev made unnecessary errors, squandering more break chances. This didn't stop him, though.
Alexander Zverev's home tournament in Hamburg proved to be another successful run, as he advanced to the semi-finals on Sunday. Despite Martinez's knee issues, the final match before the endgame was a tough one, with Zverev ultimately emerging victorious. In the semi-finals, Alexander Zverev will face an familiar opponent in Hamburg, having played against him in last year's semifinals. (Hamburg, Sunday, Semi-finals, Alexander Zverev)
