Tennis - Alcaraz through to round three at Wimbledon without dropping a set
Title defender Carlos Alcaraz remains undefeated after a successful second round performance at Wimbledon. The Spanish third-ranked player defeated Australian Aleksandar Vukic 7:6 (7:5), 6:2, 6:2, securing his spot in the third round. In the third round, Alcaraz will face US professional Frances Tiafoe.
In their only previous encounter, Alcaraz emerged as the winner. However, this match took place under different circumstances in the qualifying round of the French Open in 2020. At the time, the then 17-year-old was ranked number 193 in the world. Currently, he is a three-time Grand Slam champion. The 21-year-old recently won the French Open final against tennis Olympic gold medalist Alexander Zverev.
Carlos Alcarz's impressive run at Wimbledon continues as Great Britain's prestigious tournament witnesses another Set loss for his opponent. The Spanish sensation is set to face Frances Tiafoe in the third round, a confrontation that doesn't echo their past encounter at the International French Open in 2020. Germany's Alexander Zverev, a French Open champion and tennis Olympic gold medalist, was the victim of Alcaraz's youthful dominance then, but London's Wimbledon court may tell a different story.
