Alcaraz beats Medvedev: Zverev has no chance of reaching the semi-finals

Tennis pro Alexander Zverev no longer has a chance of reaching the semi-finals at the ATP Finals. Because Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz from Spain won 6:4, 6:4 in Turin against the Russian Daniil Mevedev, who had already qualified for the final round, Zverev's last group match this evening (20:30/Sky) against the Russian Andrei Rublev is of no significance.

Instead, Alcaraz secured his place in the semi-finals. From the other group, the Italian Jannik Sinner and the Serbian world number one Novak Djokovic had qualified for the semi-finals, which will take place this Saturday.

Dependence on Medvedev

Zverev was already struggling with his situation before the final group matches. "I'm in an unfavorable situation now. You never want that, you always want to have everything in your own hands," Zverev had said with regard to his dependence on Medvedev.

However, Zverev did not want to blame the Russian for his starting position and elimination. "If I don't make it, I can't blame anyone. Then it was only my own fault," Zverev had already said after his defeat against Medvedev on Wednesday, in which he had missed some good chances, especially in the first set.

Recovery for Zverev

Zverev will now go on vacation after the match against Rublev. After a charity event on Monday, the Olympic champion wants to recharge his batteries in the Maldives for the new season, which begins for him at the United Cup in Australia around the turn of the year. Zverev will compete there together with Angelique Kerber, who wants to make her comeback in Sydney after her maternity leave.
