Alba's mega comeback stops incredible negative run

After six defeats in a row, things looked dramatic for Alba Berlin in the EuroLeague game against Kaunas, but then something amazing happened. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich's winning streak continues. A furious game brings the third successive win.

Negative run halted with mega comeback: After six consecutive defeats in competitive games, Alba Berlin turned the tide with a show of strength and notched up only its second win in its twelfth EuroLeague game of the season. The injury-plagued team led by basketball world champion Johannes Thiemann defeated Lithuanian champions Zalgiris Kaunas 64:62 (25:28): Jonas Mattisseck hit a three-pointer with 6.7 seconds left on the final buzzer to give his side its first lead and win.

Bayern Munich, meanwhile, celebrated a prestigious victory in the world championship clash with Armani Milan. The German cup winners led by Isaac Bonga and Niels Giffey won 91:84 (44:39, 76:76) after overtime against the team of the two internationals Maodo Lo and Johannes Voigtmann. Fractions before the end of regular time, former NBA player Serge Ibaka saved Bayern with a three-pointer in overtime.

Alba nevertheless remains bottom of the table

Thanks to their fourth win from the last five EuroLeague games, Munich moved up to eleventh place, while Alba remains bottom of the table despite the escape.

Against the favored visitors, "one of the most physical teams in the EuroLeague" according to Alba's Head Coach Israel Gonzalez, Berlin trailed by up to 16 points from the outset. However, Alba came back midway through the first quarter with three successful threes in a row, held its ground better in the zone from then on and finally rewarded itself in the final spurt. Berlin's best scorer was captain Thiemann with 16 points.

Alba's EuroLeague campaign continues on Thursday evening, when Gonzalez's team will host Turkish champions Anadolu Istanbul. One evening before that, Bayern will play at Greek top team Olympiakos Piraeus.
