"Bares for Uncommon Items" - Alarming skill: A side rip sets you back 150 euros.
Two individuals, Ralph Wierleuker and his partner Alexandra Schaaf, have brought three "Sigurd" comics from the '50s to "Bares für Rares". Ralph is looking to downsize his collection and wants to sell these old comic books that he had purchased at a flea market.
Sven Deutschmanek, an expert, carefully examined these artifacts and shared some history. Sigurd was the first German comic book hero, created by Hansrudi Wäscher in 1953. The adventures of knight Sir Sigurd von Eckbertstein and his friends were told.
Between 1958 and 1968, these stories were published in large formats. The comics in question are the initial three issues from 1958. However, their condition is not exceptional, which results in a reduced price. Deutschmanek demonstrated this with an illustration - he showed a slightly creased comic page and assigned a loss of 100 to 150 euros, "and even more."
Horst Lichter, taken aback by this, suggested repairing the damaged page using Tesafilm. But the seller, Wierleuker, objected: "That would only make it worse," he said, exasperated.
Lichter seemed slightly confused, remarking, "My mother would have packed them with glasses to get rid of them."
Wierleuker's tolerance threshold is set at 1500 euros, but the expert is not entirely convinced. Since the comics have experienced some harm, he revised his estimation considerably and believed the trio was worth 800 to 1000 euros.
Lichter then questioned whether he should still attempt to find luck in the dealer's store. But Wierleuker remained firm and declined the offer.
Following the guests' departure, Lichter considered a possible course of action: He proposed buying all current comics, storing them away, and ultimately hoping for a price increase. "Then I'll do it for my grandchildren," he said.
Deutschmanek strongly discouraged this, saying, "Then you're doing something for your divorce - because you're actually leaving."
