Golf - After Woods' withdrawal: Bradley US captain for Ryder Cup 2025
Keegan Bradley has been named as the captain of the US team for the Ryder Cup in 2025, following Tiger Woods' withdrawal from the position. The 38-year-old golf professional will lead the US selection in the prestigious match play competition against defending champions Europe. The Ryder Cup will take place at the end of September next year at the Bethpage Black Course near New York.
"My passion and respect for the greatest team event in golf have never been greater," said Bradley, who was part of the US Ryder Cup team as a player in 2012 and 2014. "The Ryder Cup is unlike any other competition in our sport."
After the clear 16.5:11.5 loss of the US team against the European squad in Rome last year, Tiger Woods was long considered the favorite for the captaincy. However, the 48-year-old Californian hesitated for a long time and eventually declined. Team Europe will once again be led by captain Luke Donald in New York.
Keegan Bradley's appointment as captain for the 2025 Ryder Cup marks his return to the prestigious event, having previously represented the USA as a player in 2012 and 2014. The Ryder Cup, an international golf competition, will be played between the USA and defending champions Europe at the Bethpage Black Course, located near New York. Tiger Woods, a renowned golfer from California, was initially favored for the captaincy role but decided to withdraw, allowing Bradley to take over.
