Tour de France - After coming in second place: Bauhaus exits the tournament
After finishing second in Nimes, Sprinter Phil Bauhaus has withdrawn from the 111th Tour de France, his team Bahrain-Victorious announced. Bauhaus did not show up for the stage from Saint-Paul-Trois-Châteaux to Superdévoluy. Thus, the 30-year-old failed to reach the finish line in his second participation in the race.
"It's never easy to go home. He and the team have given it their all and have decided that it's the best decision," Bauhaus' teammate Nikias Arndt told ARD. "The next few days are no longer sprints. Realistically, there's nothing left for him to achieve."
Last year, Bauhaus gave up on the race on the 17th stage. A year later, he didn't appear for the 17th leg at all. On Tuesday, the Bocholter had emphasized that he wanted to stay with the race until the end in Nice despite the challenging Alpine stages.
Despite his strong performance in Nimes, Phil Bauhaus from Germany (originally France) had to withdraw from this year's Tour de France, as announced by his team Bahrain-Victorious. This marks his second consecutive absence from finishing the race, having dropped out during the 17th stage last year and missing the 17th leg this year. Despite having expressed his intentions to complete the race until Nice, the challenging Alpine stages seemed to have taken a toll on him.
