Unusual Times for the German Threesome

After being dismissed on Tuesday, Johnson returns to prominence in the NFL world by the following day.

On a Tuesday, then straight back at it on a Wednesday: That's usual business in the NFL. Despite not being on the main roster of the New York Giants, German fullback Jakob Johnson still has a possibility for playing time in the upcoming season.

Jakob Johnson, a seasoned American football pro, announced a deal with the New York Giants' practice squad through the German Press Agency. The 29-year-old fullback stated, "After six years in the league, you know what to expect. You may kick off the season on the practice squad, but players sometimes get promoted. I'm just focusing on becoming familiar with this new setup and being prepared for when the chance arises." Johnson was let go by the team on Tuesday as they had to downsize their roster to 53 players. It's not uncommon for players from practice squads to be moved to the active game-day roster as the season progresses.

So, Johnson's hope of participating in an NFL game in Germany isn't completely dashed yet. On November 10, the Giants will face the Carolina Panthers in their tenth regular-season game, which will be held in Munich. "That'd be an exciting moment, but first, I need to adjust to the organization and earn my spot on the team in the coming weeks. If it occurs in November, then so be it," Johnson, who has previously played for the New England Patriots and the Las Vegas Raiders, said.

Meanwhile, Equanimeous St. Brown and Marcel Dabo are still connected to the NFL via their respective team's practice squads. Both players secured new contracts with their teams' practice squads a day after their release. St. Brown continues with the New Orleans Saints, while Dabo joins the practice squad of the Indianapolis Colts. The season commences next week with a showdown between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Baltimore Ravens. The Chiefs have clinched the Super Bowl titles in the last two years.

Despite being on the practice squad, Jakob Johnson still sees potential for playing time in the NFL Sports scene, given the possibilities of promotions as the season progresses. Johnson's aspiration for participating in an NFL game in Germany could materialize on November 10, during the Giants' match against the Carolina Panthers, held in Munich.
