The long-running American series "Grey's Anatomy," which has been airing since 2005, has consistently demonstrated that characters who depart the show don't really fade away. However, the upcoming season will take this concept to new heights, as American actress Kali Rocha (52) will resurrect her role as Sydney Heron, 17 years after her last appearance in the popular ABC medical drama.

In a rare instance of a character's return to an ongoing series, Rocha is set to feature in three episodes of the 21st season. According to "Deadline", this could possibly indicate a reunion between Sydney and Dr. Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson, 54). Additionally, fans will gain insights into Sydney's life over the past two decades, following her exit from the show.

Sydney Heron's Return as a Recurring Character

Sydney Heron was introduced in episode 15 of the second season as a vivacious fourth-year assistant, filling in for Miranda Bailey during her maternity leave. Both of them managed the interns.

Rocha reappeared in the following season, featuring in five episodes. She returned for two more episodes in the fourth season and made her last guest appearance in the series in episode 8, which aired in November 2007.

Sydney instantly resonated with the interns due to her ever-optimistic mindset and "heal through love" philosophy, which she adopted following a nervous breakdown induced by the loss of a patient and a brief hiatus from medicine.

Subsequently, she unsuccessfully contested against Dr. Calliope "Callie" Iphigenia Torres (Sara Ramirez, 48) and Bailey for the position of chief of staff and even had a date with Dr. Derek Christopher Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey, 58). However, she eventually realized that their personalities clashed.

"Grey's Anatomy" and its Tradition of Coming Back

It's a time-honored tradition on "Grey's Anatomy" for familiar faces to resurface at Grey Sloan after years away, offering audience members an update on their personal lives and professional journeys.

American actress Kate Walsh (56) returned to the show in season 18, ten years after her character Dr. Addison Adrianne Forbes Montgomery was last seen.

In the previous season, actress Jessica Capshaw (48) reprised her role as Dr. Arizona Robbins after a five-and-a-half-year hiatus.

Actor Scott Speedman (48) became a regular cast member in season 19, about three and a half years after his character Dr. Nick Marsh made his debut in a single episode. He has been appearing in recurring roles in the past two seasons and will return for more episodes in the upcoming season.

After a significantly long absence, Kali Rocha's character Sydney Heron is making a comeback to the world of "Grey's Anatomy", bringing forth an exciting twist to the 21st season. This comeback is set to shedd light on Sydney's life developments over the past two decades, intriguing fans who have eagerly awaited her return.
