Actress Ruth Maria Kubitschek passed away.

Veteran actress Ruth Maria Kubitschek, who was renowned for her sophisticated persona in numerous films and TV shows, has died at the age of 92 in Switzerland.

A spokesperson for the German Press Agency reported that Kubitschek passed away on Saturday, following a brief and severe illness. The statement read, "The esteemed matriarch of German cinema and television drama has gracefully bid farewell to life in her adopted country of Switzerland."

For several decades, Kubitschek made a significant impact on German television. She featured in 'Traumschiff' on ZDF, starred in 'Tatort' on ARD, and played a vital role in 'Das Erbe der Guldenburgs' on the Second Channel. Alongside Helmut Fischer, she garnered cult status as Annette von Soettingen, aka "Spatzl," on the popular TV series 'Monaco Franze - Der ewige Stenz' produced by the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation.

Born in 1931 in Komotau, currently part of the Czech Republic near the Ore Mountains, during World War II Kubitschek's family fled and settled in Saxony-Anhalt. She honed her craft attending acting schools in Halle and Weimar before making her stage debut as Fina in Brecht's 'Herr Puntila und sein Knecht Matti' in Halle. She rose to prominence as a star of East German television and DEFA films. In 1959, she moved to the West with her son.

West German Career and Later Life

Her husband, renowned opera and theater director Götz Friedrich, stayed in East Germany but was able to direct in the West. Kubitschek's journey in West German entertainment began at the Schlosstheater in Celle. Speedily, she landed roles in TV productions, such as 'Lysistrata' (1961), 'Die Powenzbande' (1973), and the title role in 'Melissa' (1966).

She also starred in the iconic series 'Kir Royal' in 1985, where the Munich Schickeria was critiqued. In 2013, Kubitschek played her last role in the film 'Frau Ella.' Since 2013, she had been a Swiss citizen and resided in Ascona. Her spokesperson Yvonne von Stempel informed the dpa of her passing. Her last words were: "The Earth provided me with a stunning home in this world. With deep gratitude, I will transition into the other world. It's possible to believe." The family will hold a private ceremony for her funeral.

She often expressed her fascination with the theater, mentioning in interviews that she found Mozart's operas particularly captivating.

Regrettably, the world of entertainment has suffered another significant loss with the news of Ruth Maria Kubitschek's death. Her contribution to both East and West German films and TV shows will be remembered, and her impact on German cinema and television drama will continue to inspire future generations of actors.
