Kristen Stewart, aged 34, will take on her first significant role in a television production, "The Challenger." She will play the part of the late astronaut Sally Ride, a physicist and the third woman to travel to space in 1983 at the age of 32. This information was shared by the industry news site "Deadline."
Developed from the book "The New Guys" by Meredith Bagby, the miniseries has partnerships with Big Swing Productions, Kyra Sedgwick and Valerie Stadler. Amblin Partners, led by Steven Spielberg, and Stewart's Nevermind are also involved.
A Journey of Three Friends
Maggie Cohn, famed for her contributions to "American Crime Story," "The Staircase," and "Narcos: Mexico," is expected to handle the scriptwriting and oversee the series as the showrunner. At this point, it's unclear how far the project has progressed. Sedgwick has mentioned that she and Bagby have been working with Stadler at Big Swing since 2017 on the project, which is said to be the dream of "three girls."
At present, no information is available on other cast members for "The Challenger." The broadcast platform for the series has not been announced yet. Sedgwick revealed recently that a broadcast deal is forthcoming. The plan, as per the report, is to release the series around the anniversary of the Challenger disaster on January 28, 1986.
