Evangeline Lilly - Actress - Actor from "Ant-Man" announces retirement.
Actor Evangeline Lilly (44) has announced that she's bidding farewell to the world of showbiz after being a part of it for nearly two decades. The "Marvel" and "The Hobbit" actress shared this news with her 2.5 million Instagram followers, expressing it not with sadness but with "joy and satisfaction."
At age 44, Lilly mentioned the spiritual aspect of her decision: "[Letting go of] the seemingly obvious choice (wealth and fame) can sometimes feel scary, but when you stick to your dharma, fear is replaced by fulfillment." The word dharma comes from Asian religions and represents an individual's unique moral code.
Hidden Desires
Intriguingly, Lilly hinted at wanting to retire from acting much earlier through a video she posted with her message. A 2006 clip from a beach showed her being asked about her future ambitions. Her response: "I'm a little scared to share this with the rest of the acting world, but ideally, I would be a retired actress by then."
At this point in her career, Lilly's Hollywood success was just starting to take shape. In 2004, she made her mark with the mystery series "Lost," which she starred in for its entirety until 2010.
Had Lilly's 2006 wish been granted, she would have ceased acting after the first "Ant-Man" (2015) film. Consequently, she would have missed out on the sequels "Ant-Man and the Wasp" (2018) and "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" (2023). As well, she wouldn't have been part of "Avengers: Endgame," the second-highest-grossing film in film history since "Avatar."
What's Next?
For now, the 44-year-old wishes to dedicate herself to her family and philanthropy. While her fans are concerned that they might never see her on screen again, she assured them in her post: "Maybe I'll return to Hollywood one day, but for now, I belong here. A new season is showcasing itself and I am prepared... and content."
