- A successful animated series becomes a series
With over 1.5 billion USD in box office earnings, Pixar's animated film "Inside Out 2" is currently the most successful film of the year by a significant margin. Given the commercial success of the first film in 2015, it's not surprising that the following news was revealed during Disney's D23 Expo: A series based on the film franchise is in development for Disney+.
According to Pixar chief Pete Docter (55), the series will be a spin-off titled "Dream Productions" and will take place inside the mind of the main character, Riley. Unlike the film, the series will focus on the "dream factory" rather than Riley's personified emotions, allowing for endless storytelling possibilities as Riley experiences sweet dreams and likely some nightmares.
"Dream Productions" will be set between the first and second films, with Riley in the eventful phase between childhood and adolescence. The series is expected to premiere next year, with an exact release date yet to be announced.
"Inside Out 2" is still playing in theaters but has already made cinematic history. The Pixar production has become the most commercially successful animated film of all time, grossing around 100 million dollars more than the previous record holder, "Frozen 2". Furthermore, it has secured a spot in the top 10 of the all-time box office charts, pushing "Avengers" to 11th place.
The Hollywood Reporter reported the exciting news about the development of the "Dream Productions" series, a spin-off from Pixar's successful film franchise "Inside Out." The series will delve into the dream factory within Riley's mind, expanding upon the narrative possibilities introduced in the films.
