A secluded, high-end neighborhood in the desert has plots for sale, with prices reaching up to $50 million.
The community known as Discovery Dunes is an exclusive area in southern Dubai that only allows access to those who buy one of their 340 mansions, villas, or land plots. These properties occupy 600 acres (27 million square meters) and have a starting price of $7.5 million.
To become a part of this community, potential buyers must go through a thorough application process and meet DLC's stringent criteria. So far, 60% of the available spots have been sold through word of mouth, and residents are starting to move in as the construction nears completion.
Discovery Dunes boasts a variety of activities like mountain biking, kite surfing, boarding, and racquet sports. The community will also feature a private championship golf course, designed by world-renowned architect Tom Fazio. Opening next year, this 18-hole course will be available exclusively for members and guests, with cutting-edge technology to help coaches and players enhance their performance.
This begins Discovery Land Company's entry into the Middle East's ultra-luxury market. They currently operate 35 high-end residential communities worldwide.
According to Mike Meldman, founder and chairman of DLC, "We believe that spending time with the people you care about is the true luxury. Discovery Dunes allows you to connect these important people with the things that matter most."
Personalized paradise
One of Discovery Dunes' biggest appeals is the freedom to customize your living space. Members can either build a custom home with the help of an architect overseen by DLC or collaborate directly with the developers.
A spokesperson from Discovery Land Company shared, "The villas here at Discovery Dunes are highly personalized. Residents can select every aspect of their home, from the facade to interior finishes. Some people might want certain materials from Italy, Brazil, or Argentina, and we can accommodate all these requests."
The furnished villas are designed by award-winning firm Olson Kundig, based in San Diego and recently placed on the 2024 AD100 List for influential design and architectural firms. DLC is also partnering with Killa Design from the UAE.
The company is dedicated to respecting the environment: they plan to have an on-site farm and employ graywater for the golf course.
More than a clubhouse
Members of Discovery Dunes enjoy private access to Discovery Downtown, a members-only club in Dubai's extravagant Edition hotel set next to the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building. Facilities include well-stocked comfort stations, a restaurant, a children's media room, a small conference lounge, and a bar.
Additionally, DLC has completed work on its first on-site experience center, "The Lakehouse," an eco-friendly farm-to-table bar and restaurant with lake-related recreational activities like paddle boarding and swimming.
Discovery Dunes is just one of several upcoming projects from DLC, including developments in Europe, Portugal, and Central America.
