A reported goalkeeper has been excluded from Nagelsmann's squad.

Julian Nagelsmann must submit his European Championship (EM) squad to UEFA by midnight. Before that, there is a general rehearsal against Greece. However, there's a surprise in store - one of the four goalkeepers will not make it to the tournament. Reports suggest that Alexander Nübel might be the unlucky one.

Several sources, such as Sky and Bild, claim that Nübel is the strike candidate for Nagelsmann. This is surprising, as the coach had previously insisted on going to the EM with four goalkeepers. A hint could be in the UEFA-announced squad list for the last EM test match against Greece. In this match, Nübel is not among the 26 players on the list of Germany's national team. Nagelsmann still has to drop one player from his provisional EM squad of 27.

Nagelsmann had already made up his mind about the strike candidate, but he won't announce it before the rehearsal against Greece. The affected player has not been informed either. He's only discussed "different options" with his coaching team. The game against Greece is not very significant for the selection unless a player gets injured, but Maximilian Beier from TSG Hoffenheim and Robin Koch from Eintracht Frankfurt are considered strong contenders. Nagelsmann reiterated that no player deserved to be excluded.

Meanwhile, Nübel accepted the possibility of not making it to the EM, saying, "It could happen that it happens. To be honest, I don't know. It's clear that on field positions during a tournament, more changes are made than in goal. Maybe Julian will say now shortly before the start that he needs three keepers because he wants more flexibility on the field." Nübel assured that he'll "give everything until the last second, I can't do more."

In contrast to these rumors, Nagelsmann had confirmed at the provisional EM squad announcement that he would go to the tournament with four instead of three goalkeepers. The selected goalkeepers are Manuel Neuer (FC Bayern) as number one, Marc-André ter Stegen (FC Barcelona), Oliver Baumann (TSG Hoffenheim), and national team newcomer Nübel.
