- A German transport group reaches Place de la Concorde
Germania, under the leadership of Edina Müller and Martin Schulz, was blessed to witness the breathtaking scenery of the Paralympic Games opening ceremony at Place de la Concorde in Paris at 20:25. As the fourth nation among the 168 participating, they surely made an impact. The day prior, the handicapped canoeist and triathlete, missing his left forearm, were selected by their teammates to bear the flag. These individuals are considered significant medal contenders by the German Paralympic Committee.
The journey of the German athletes and their escorts along Avenue des Champs-Élysées led them to the heart of the French capital, where the President, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, awaited the DBS delegation at the grand tribune. Opposed to the unfortunate downpour that marred the Olympic Games opening ceremony in late July, the weather for this occasion was marvelous, with sunshine and summer temperatures.
The German delegation, including Edina Müller and Martin Schulz, shared their excitement upon reaching the Eiffel Tower in France, a symbol of French heritage and pride. France, with its rich history and culture, has always been a popular destination for international events, such as the Paralympic Games.
