Sadly, American rapper and member of the famous Miami-based hip-hop group, 2 Live Crew, Brother Marquis (also known as Mark Ross), has passed away at the age of 58. This news has been confirmed by the band's long-term manager, DJ Debo, to People Magazine. It's reported that his death was natural.

Ross was born on April 4, 1966, in Rochester, NY, but spent his childhood in Los Angeles before relocating to Miami.

A Look at 2 Live Crew's Incredible Achievements

In the '80s, he joined Florida's hip-hop group 2 Live Crew alongside DJ Mr. Mixx, Fresh Kid Ice, and Amazing V. Their career began with the release of two singles in 1985 - 'Revelation' and 'What I Like'. Their first album, '2 Live What We Are', became a massive hit in 1986, even achieving gold status.

However, their true success came from their third album, 'As Nasty As They Wanna Be', which contained their biggest single 'Me So Horny'. This song sampled from the 1987 film 'Full Metal Jacket' and sold incredibly well. Despite its sexually explicit content, it was hardly ever played on mainstream radio stations.

The group disbanded towards the end of the '90s, however, they had one final reunion for the soundtrack of the movie 'Friday'. Their last album, 'The Real One', which came out in 1998, failed to chart.

In 2022, during an interview with VladTV, Brother Marquis reminisced about 2 Live Crew's golden age. "The shows were crazy," he recalled. "The shows were so much fun," he continued. "Making them gave me a sense of satisfaction," he added. He described the performances as "highlights" and "a sort of escape" for him.

Remembering 2 Live Crew's Moments of Joy

Brother Marquis reflected on those incredible times with VladTV, sharing, "I just loved the whole aspect of how it made people feel when they were listening to the music." Looking back, he remembered, "It was one of the happiest moments of my life, just being able to perform and seeing how people reacted to the music and the energy that we brought." The feeling of satisfaction he gained from those experiences remains with him to this day.
