Protezione Animali - Ministro dell'Ambiente Meyer visita stazione balenatura
[During a visit to Norddeich, Norddeich's Environment Minister Christian Meyer (Greens) acknowledged the work of the Seal Station. The employees did an excellent job, said the Minister, who had last visited the station in another capacity ten years ago. The visit was part of the Minister's summer tour. Shortly beforehand, the Environment Ministry had also announced that the Seal Station, which is located in the National Park Wattenmeer, would receive 80,000 Euro in funding.
The money will allow the station to use it for the Wunderwelt Wattenmeer project. This involves a seminar for children. Over a weekend, participants will receive insights into the work of the Seal Station, search for seals at sea, and learn about the animals. They will also learn more about the Wattenmeer ecosystem in general.
Help for Seal Cubs
The institution, which was founded in 1971, raises seal pups that have lost their mothers. The young seals, known as pups, are cared for there until they can be released back into the wild. Visitors can observe this work on site. In addition, the station informs the public about the correct handling of seals in its work. Minister Meyer was seen in images feeding seals at the station with fish.
According to the institution's website, a distance of 300 meters should be kept from the animals during observation. If a possibly abandoned pup is found during the breeding season, it can be reported to the Seal Station. Pups are born between June and August. Outside of this period, seals should only be reported if they are injured.]
