Zac Efron would love to play Matthew Perry

Years ago, Zac Efron and Matthew Perry appeared in front of the camera together, and Efron has been an avowed fan of the "Friends" star ever since. When it was announced that there was to be a biopic about the recently deceased Perry and that he could be considered for the role, Efron immediately agreed. It would be "a great honor" for him.

Zac Efron and Matthew Perry's time together on the set of the comedy "17 Again - Back to High School" apparently left a lasting impression on both of them. Around a week ago, the Friends star revealed that Perry was planning a biopic about his life and was keen to cast his former co-star as a young version of himself. When asked about this at the US premiere of his new film "The Iron Claw", Efron was deeply touched by the news.

"I felt very honored," the star revealed in an interview with "ExtraTV" on the red carpet of the event in Dallas, Texas. "It would be great to do it," he also revealed his willingness to fulfill Perry's wish should the project one day become a reality. He added: "We'll see what happens."

"Still devastated"

Speaking about the sudden death of Perry, with whom he had starred in "17 Again - Back to High School" in 2009, Efron said: "I'm still devastated by the fact that he's no longer with us."

There would probably be enough material for a haunting biopic about Matthew Perry. The star published his memoirs "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing" just under a year before his death. Among other things, it deals with his severe drug and alcohol addiction, surprising romances and, last but not least, his incredibly rapid rise to global stardom thanks to his role as Chandler Bing in the series "Friends".

According to US reports, Perry was found dead in a hot tub at his home in Los Angeles on October 28 of this year. The exact cause of death has still not been determined. A week after his sudden death, he was buried in Los Angeles. Family and colleagues are said to have bid him farewell in a private funeral ceremony last Friday. The star was only 54 years old.

In the midst of mourning Matthew Perry's sudden death, Efron shared his feelings, mentioning, "I'm still devastated by the fact that he's no longer with us." With the release of Perry's memoir, "Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing," there seems to be ample material for a poignant Hollywood biopic, potentially touching on his struggles with addiction, romance, and meteoric rise to fame.
