Melissa Khalaj - Your styling tips for hot days
The Berlin Fashion Week is in full swing - and Melissa Khalaj (35) cannot be missing. "I love Fashion Weeks all over the world and everything surrounding it", gushes the moderator at the sidelines of the VIP Beauty & Fashion Lounge, where Philips Lumea IPL is presented. "I enjoy trying out beauty trends", says the 35-year-old and gives insights into her personal beauty routine.
Question: Love, you're a regular at Fashion Week. Would you like to run on the catwalk yourself?
Melissa Khalaj: I love Fashion Weeks all over the world, I consume the content on Social Media, and I'm fascinated by everything that goes on around it. Who sits in the Front Rows? What do the guests have on? What happens at the after-show parties? Even walking on the runway itself would be insane. I find it impressive how disciplined the models bring fashion to the catwalk and am fascinated by how differently the shows are staged every year.
Role: What role does fashion play in your life?
Khalaj: I've wanted to decide what I wear since kindergarten age, no matter what season. In my job, I'm fortunate enough to be able to wear great outfits every day and love playing with my style and always finding something new. I get inspired daily. Fashion is a big part of my life and makes me so much fun. Fashion is, in my opinion, a lifestyle.
Role Model: Do you have a fashion role model?
Khalaj: I like Rihanna's daring, relaxed, and sexy style very much. I also love the style icons of the 90s: Lady Diana, Cindy Crawford, Kate Moss.
Time: How much time do you invest in yourself approximately every day?
Khalaj: I keep my makeup relatively decent and am done in about 15 minutes. Daily grooming tasks like shaving and dealing with ingrown hairs or clogged pores are part of the past, thanks to the IPL from the past. That's quite a chunk of rent. The most important thing is to feel good and take care of myself. However, the general lifestyle also makes a big difference in terms of appearance.
Makeup: Do you go out of the house without makeup on privately?
Khalaj: The older I get, the more self-confident I become about going out without makeup. I usually don't put it on when walking the dog or going to the supermarket, but for everything else, I definitely do - and it's just fun.
Beauty Routine: What does your personal beauty routine look like?
Khalaj: Skincare and makeup are key. It took a while to really internalize that. In my twenties, I'm sure I've gone to bed with makeup on after a party. That wouldn't happen to me today. However, I don't overdo it and focus on the essentials: good cleansing, a serum, and a moisturizing cream, done. I also get peeled twice a week. I never leave the house without sunscreen!
Trends: Which beauty trends are you sworn to?
Khalaj: I like to try out beauty trends. I own, like many others, a Gua Sha and hope to prevent or minimize wrinkles with it. However, my mother showed me early on that cucumbers from the freezer refresh the face wonderfully. I still do that today.
Summer: Summer is here: What are your styling tips to feel good all around on hot days?
Khalaj: I love wearing airy summer clothes made of cotton or linen. They not only accentuate the feminine energy, they give you a carefree feeling.
Must-have: What is your absolute must-have in the summer?
Khalaj: For me, the most important thing in the summer is to feel light and free. With today's temperatures, a hand fan and deodorant definitely belong to this.
