The topic centers on the German state of Saarland. - Young man assaults fellow with a knife before turning himself in to law enforcement

In the aftermath of a knife assault on a train in Saarland, the presumed assailant has surrendered to authorities. The individual in question, aged 32, was apprehended on Monday evening at Saarbrücken's central station. They are set to appear before a judge on that day, according to a representative from the Saarbrücken Federal Police, who spoke to the German Press Agency.

At present, there are no details on the potential motive for the attack. The person of interest will be questioned further. All angles of the case are being explored.

The suspect is a Turkish citizen, who, at this time, has no past dealings with law enforcement. He is accused of suddenly assaulting a 21-year-old man on the train with a knife on Monday evening, inflicting injuries that while serious, are not considered life-threatening. The younger man sustained a laceration to his neck.

The alleged perpetrator and the victim seem to have been strangers

Initial findings suggest that the victim and the suspect didn't know each other. They were seated opposite one another in a four-seater row within the train.

Medical personnel from the Federal Police reportedly attended to the injured 21-year-old first. He was then transferred to a hospital and underwent surgery. It is expected that there were witnesses to the crime, but no one has come forward as yet.

The violent act transpired shortly prior to the train reaching the Saarbrücken main station. The perpetrator vacated the train as it pulled into the station. A search ensued, which involved both federal and state police. Following a two-hour hunt in the surrounding area, the assailant voluntarily surrendered, the spokesperson confirmed.
