Young Alternative Thuringia is confidently labeled as right-wing extremist.
The Youth Alternative (JA) Thuringia has been labeled as a confirmed right-wing extremist group by the state's Office for the Protection of the Constitution. This revelation was made by the Ministry of Interior in Erfurt on Thursday, referring to a decision made by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
JA Thuringia is a sub-group of the Thuringian AfD, whose state-level branch has been classified as a proven right-wing extremist organization by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution since 2021.
The Thuringian division of the AfD is headed by Björn Höcke as their party leader. In 2023, the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution classified JA as a proven right-wing extremist movement across Germany. The JA state associations in Brandenburg, Saxony, and Saxony-Anhalt were also labeled as proven right-wing extremist.
The Thuringian Office for the Protection of the Constitution explained their classification on March 28, mentioning "an ethnically homogeneous German nation and a German community of descent" as the reasons behind their decision. This is in conflict with the Basic Law of Germany. The JA proposes "biologistic assumptions about who can and cannot be German", devaluing all groups which the organization deems non-German as "criminals" broadly.
