Workers manage to connect with prisoners.
In a turn of events, Iran's Vice President revealed that rescuers have made contact with two of the helicopter's occupants. This comes as 40 rescue teams scour the countryside for the site of the crash that involved President Ebrahim Raisi and the Foreign Minister, Hussein Amirabdollahian. According to Mohsen Mansuri, the Vice President for Executive Affairs, the rescuers are just two kilometers away from the suspected crash site.
The helicopter carrying the high-profile crew went down after a meeting between Raisi and the President of neighboring Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. As the search for the site continues, government officials expressed concerns about their well-being. With rain, poor visibility, and the rugged landscape, the rescue teams had their work cut out for them.
Anxiety was prevalent among the public, given the nature of the passengers involved in the crash. The army leadership ordered all military and Revolutionary Guard resources to assist in the search, with the expectation of finding the accident site within the evening. Adding to the calm, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's Supreme Leader, requested the public not to worry or be anxious about the situation. He guaranteed that government affairs would not be disrupted due to this incident and offered prayers for Ebrahim Raisi's safety.
