Madonna - Work on the biopic continues
Over a year ago, Madonna's (65) biopic - a film about the life of the Queen of Pop - was put on ice. However, the 65-year-old now hints that work on the project is continuing.
A Clear Indication?
The post is a reel consisting of a photo series where Madonna is sitting at a typewriter. Scattered around her are a lot of papers. In the caption, she explains: "I need a lot of coal to make this (My life story)."
In one of the pictures, the inscription "Who's That Girl" is visible on the top of a stack of papers that resemble a script. This could be a reference to Madonna's film comedy "Who's That Girl" from 1987 and the same-named single of the 65-year-old. It could also be the name of the biopic, as the crossed-out word "untitled" is next to it. Upon closer inspection of the script, the words "rewritten by Madonna and ECW" stand out. The initials could refer to the scriptwriter Erin Cressida Wilson (60), who has been involved in the project since Diablo Cody (46) reportedly dropped out according to media reports.
The Project Gains Momentum
In 2020, it was first reported that Madonna wanted to produce a film about her life. However, complications arose during the search for a suitable leading actress, as it was not until two years later that Julia Garner (30) was cast in the role. In January 2023, it was announced that the project would be postponed initially. Madonna then announced a world tour that took her through 35 cities and ended in April of that year.
Shortly thereafter, The Sun reported that the filming of the biopic was set to begin within the next twelve months and that Garner was already intensively preparing for the role. According to The Hollywood Reporter, there was previously a problem with the development of the film, which was that there were many comprehensive drafts of scripts.
What Will It Be About?
According to Madonna, the film will follow her "struggle as an artist trying to survive in a man's world as a woman," a journey she described as a "happy, sad, crazy, good, bad and ugly" story about the creation of a superstar. The singer herself is reportedly set to direct the film.
- Julia Garner, the newly appointed lead actress for Madonna's biography film, is reportedly intensively preparing for her role, hinting at the film's imminent revival.
- Personally excited about the resurgence of her biopic, Madonna shares a reel on Instagram showing her working on the script, potentially referencing her hit single "Who's That Girl" and the project's working title.
- With Garner's dedication to her role and Madonna's experience as both a singer and potential director, the 'Biography film' may finally make its way to production, providing fans with a glimpse into the life of the iconic 'Queen of Pop'.
