Woman accuses Gérard Depardieu of rape
Gérard Depardieu is one of the most famous French actors. However, after several allegations of sexualized violence by female colleagues and the publication of a revealing documentary, his popularity is on the decline. Now a Spanish journalist is also making accusations.
Following allegations of rape and abuse in France, a Spanish journalist is now also accusing French actor Gérard Depardieu of rape. She has filed a complaint against the 74-year-old with the Spanish police, said journalist and author Ruth Baza.
The 23-year-old Depardieu raped her in Paris in October 1995 when she interviewed him for the magazine "Cinemanía", she said. According to Baza, who is now 51, the incident took place on the premises of the former production company Roissy Films. She said that she "at no time" consented to sex with the actor and was "paralyzed". The police and public prosecutor's office did not initially confirm the receipt of a complaint from Baza.
An investigation into allegations of rape against Depardieu has been ongoing in France since the end of 2020. The actress Charlotte Arnould accuses the actor of raping her twice in his Paris apartment in 2018. At the beginning of December, actress Hélène Darras also accused him of sexual assault during filming in 2007. Numerous other women have accused Depardieu of sexual assault in the past, but have not yet pressed charges. Depardieu, who turns 75 on December 27, rejects all accusations.
Depardieu expelled from the Legion of Honor
A few days ago, French Culture Minister Rima Abdul Malak described Depardieu's behavior towards women as a "disgrace to France" and initiated his expulsion from the Legion of Honor. This was triggered by a documentary in which the film star can be seen making numerous vulgar and sexist comments during a filming trip to North Korea.
Depardieu is one of the most famous French actors. He has worked with the most important directors and actresses in France and has appeared in more than 200 films. He has played the eloquent Cyrano de Bergerac as well as a washed-up pop singer, a slaughterhouse worker, an Alzheimer's patient and Obelix.
From a legal point of view, Spanish author Baza's criminal complaint is almost hopeless, as the crime is said to have taken place in France and would have been time-barred there long ago. However, the 51-year-old hopes, in her own words, that she can "help other people" to do the same.

In the midst of ongoing investigations into sexual assault allegations against him in France, Depardieu's entertainment career outside of France continues to face scrutiny. A Spanish journalist recently accused the 74-year-old actor of raping her in Paris in 1995, an incident that allegedly took place during an interview for the magazine "Cinemanía".
Despite facing serious accusations of sexual misconduct, Depardieu's notable contributions to French cinema remain evident. He has worked with renowned directors and actors, and his versatile roles have spanned from Cyrano de Bergerac to a washed-up pop singer and beyond.
The entertainment industry in France has been under scrutiny for years due to numerous allegations of sexual abuse and harassment, with Depardieu being one of the prominent figures in the ongoing scandal. Following the release of a revealing documentary and numerous accusations by female colleagues, Depardieu's once-uncontested popularity is now waning significantly.
