Kamala Harris - With the help of Beyonce into the Oval Office?
Kamala Harris (59) received apparent support from music superstar Beyoncé (42) in her bid for the Oval Office. According to US media reports, Harris visited her campaign headquarters on Monday evening (22.7.) to the sounds of Beyoncé's hit "Freedom" from the album "Lemonade" (2016). CNN reported, that the US Vice President had only received explicit permission from the singer hours before to use the song on her campaign trail.
A source close to Kamala Harris reportedly told CNN that Beyoncé's team had given the politician permission to play "Freedom" not only on Monday but "during her entire presidential campaign."
"Tacit approval" from Beyoncé
Beyoncé has not yet officially endorsed Kamala Harris. In contrast, her mother Tina Knowles (70) wrote in an Instagram post: "New, young, sharp, energy!!!! You all wanted it and our President Biden did what was best for the country. Setting aside personal ego, power, and fame. That's what a great leader looks like. Thank you, President Biden, for your service and leadership." She then tagged Vice President Kamala Harris: "Let's Go #kamala2024". She added a photo of herself with the 59-year-old.
According to US media reports, Harris' use of Beyoncé's song at her appearances can be seen as "tacit approval" from the singer herself.
The song "Freedom," featuring rapper Kendrick Lamar (37), was never officially released as a single and peaked at only number 35 on the "Billboard" charts in 2016 as an album track. The Grammy-nominated song, however, became an anthem for many demonstrations following the violent death of George Floyd (1973-2020) in 2020.
Tina Knowles' Instagram post expressing support for Kamala Harris and urging her to run for president again in 2024 can be seen as a clear demonstration of Understanding and alignment with Harris' political views, especially considering Beyoncé's close relationship with her mother. Furthermore, the continuous use of Beyoncé's song "Freedom" during Kamala Harris' campaign events is often interpreted as Tina Knowles and Beyoncé offering 'tacit approval' to the Vice President's bid for higher office, serving to inspire and connect with her supporters.
