The Danish men's handball team won the gold medal match on Sunday afternoon (August 11) with a clear victory of 39:26 against the German team, securing Denmark's second gold medal on the final day of the Games. The team could also count on a special good luck charm in the audience: Denmark's King Frederik X (56) was present at the Stade Pierre Mauroy in Lille, accompanied by his son Prince Christian (18).

Father and Son Cheer on Handballers

Before the match, the official Instagram account of the Danish royal household shared a photo of Frederik and Christian seated in the stands, with the caption: "We will be sitting in the stands for the men's semifinal. Let's hope Denmark can finish the Olympics with a gold medal."

Their cheering must have worked: After the game, the palace shared more photos of the father-son duo and the players, including one of them both making the victory sign. The caption read: "Congratulations on the gold!"

King Frederik X had already been present at the Olympic Games in Paris, visiting athletes at the Norwegian house and attending the opening ceremony on July 26. Early August, Queen Mary (52) was there to support Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour, Nanna Skodborg Merrald, and Daniel Bachmann Andersen as they won the silver medal in the dressage team event.

Men and boys in the stands joined the celebrations as King Frederik X and his son Prince Christian made the victory sign, acknowledging the triumph of the Danish men's handball team. The enjoyable experience of watching the team secure a second gold medal at the Olympic Games was shared by many men and boys in the audience.
