"Made a ton of mistakes" - Will Smith is extremely self-critical

Since the resounding Oscar slap that Will Smith (55) gave comedian Chris Rock (58) in front of an audience of millions in March 2022, the actor's career has largely been on hold. Instead, his private life and above all his marriage to Jada Pinkett Smith (52) have dominated the headlines. As a guest at the Red Sea International Film Festival in Saudi Arabia, which is currently taking place until December 9, he used his time on stage to reflect ruefully , according to "Page Six".

"I made a ton of mistakes," the Hollywood star is quoted as saying. At the same time, however, this is "deeply human". He partly explains some of these mistakes by his place in the global spotlight: "Fame is a unique monster. You can't get too excited when people say good things about you, because then you stumble and suffer all the more when they say bad things about you." First and foremost, he now has to "get clear about who I am and what I want to achieve in this world."

Surprising marriage confession

Pinkett Smith surprisingly revealed in October of this year as part of the publication of her book "Worthy" that she and Will Smith have been separated since 2016. "We're still figuring it out," she told US magazine People about the state of their marriage. "We just have a deep love for each other and we're going to figure out what that looks like for us."

Of all things, Smith's violent outburst at the Oscars is said to have brought the two closer again, as Pinkett Smith also revealed in October. It was then that she made the important decision to stay with her husband after all in order to work towards a "non-traditional relationship".

During her appearance on Britain's "The One Show" in late October, she said of the March 2022 Oscar scandal: "I knew it was a strong reaction. And that was the moment I decided to stay by his side."
