First Albert and Princess Charlotte - Why Olympia Monaco's Royals shine again

Joy was written on their faces: Prince Albert II and his wife Princess Charlene of Monaco visited the Olympic opening ceremony in Paris together with their twins Jacques and Gabriella. The rainy weather couldn't dampen the family's spirits that evening, as they followed the ceremony with rain ponchos. And they cheered on Monaco's athletes and athletes with great force. Albert and Charlene looked unusually radiant and composed, as they both have a special bond with sports and the Olympics in particular.

Prince Albert's maternal grandfather won multiple Gold medals in the Olympic Games in rowing for the USA. Albert himself represented Monaco a total of five times in the Winter Games before his accession to the throne as a bobsledder: in 1988 in Calgary, 1992 in Albertville, 1994 in Lillehammer, 1998 in Nagano, and finally in 2002 in Salt Lake City. However, he never won a medal.

Prince Albert and Princess Charlene both participated in the Olympics

His wife, Princess Charlene, nee Charlene Wittstock, was a professional swimmer before her marriage and is also a former Olympian. The South African participated in the Summer Olympics in Sydney in 2000 and finished 5th in the 4x100m Freestyle Relay. Albert has been a member of the IOC since 1985 and has been the Chairman of the National Olympic Committee of Monaco since 1994.

Therefore, it's no wonder that the family made the most of the atmosphere in Paris. Before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, the royal couple was invited to a reception at the Elysée Palace by the French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte, as shown in the royal family's Instagram posts. Prince Albert and Princess Charlene wore their looks for the opening ceremony, which were color-coordinated in red and white. The day before the opening ceremony, they also attended an IOC dinner at the Louvre, as shown in Instagram posts.

Among their previous Olympic appearances was a date in mid-June. Together with Princess Gabriella and Prince Jacques, both nine years old, they received the Olympic torch before the Prince's Palace in Monaco and couldn't resist carrying the symbolic flame a little way on its journey from Olympia in Greece to the current host city Paris. In mid-July, they then opened the exhibition "The Olympic Flame Through Time" in Monaco, which is also a tribute to the Olympic heritage of the Monaco royal family, explaining their enthusiasm for the Olympics.
