Hugh Grant - Why he no longer plays romantic comedies

Films such as "Four Weddings and a Funeral" (1993), "Notting Hill" (1999), "Love Actually... Love" (2003) or the "Bridget Jones" series made Hugh Grant (63) the king of romantic comedies and heartthrob of the 1990s and 2000s. But those days are long gone, and in recent years the actor has increasingly been seen in more multifaceted roles. The reason? "I was obviously getting too old and fat and ugly to do romantic comedies," jokes Grant on "The Drew Barrymore Show". "So I was offered more interesting stuff."

"Got a bit better"

Getting older has given him more fulfilling work, which he says has improved his acting. "I've gotten a little bit better," says Grant in an interview with his former romantic comedy colleague Drew Barrymore (48). "I got a little less bad after I had kids, got married and became happier."

Grant was last seen in "Cloud Atlas" in 2012 and "How to Write Love" in 2014. This was followed by character roles in films such as "Codename U.N.C.L.E." (2015) or "Florence Foster Jenkins" (2016) and series such as "A Very English Scandal" (2018) or "The Undoing" (2020). In 2022, Grant starred in "Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery", in 2023 in "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves", and can currently be seen alongside Timothée Chalamet (28) as Oompa Loompa in "Wonka".

Drew Barrymore hopes for Hugh Grant's romantic comedy comeback

However, DrewBarrymore is still hoping that Grant will return to his former favorite genre - perhaps even together: "We have to do another one," jokes the actress and presenter. She and Grant were seen together in 2007 in "A Song for You".
